I'm just curious what an average life span is for a well used washer and dryer. We bought our set new 5 years ago. During that time I've replaced the water pump and agitator dogs on the washer. This morning while washing a load it started turning itself on and off. It seems like an electrical issue this time. Our dryer is acting out and I think it just needs a new belt.
This particular set was purchased at Nebraska Furniture Mart and is Whirlpool brand. I know that we really really use the set and I'm bad about over loading it. I'm a get it done kinda girl so I try and get as much done at once as possible. I'm sure that's lessened it's lifespan but at the same time it seems like we're regularly trying to figure out what the new noise is coming from the laundry room.
I would love a newer set that had a huge basin so I could get a lot done without overloading it. Is five years a little young to need replacing? Just curious...

We had our old set for 6 years and they died. It would have cost more to fix than to replace. So. . .we ended up with a new set. Good luck. . . .Abie
I looked a while back because mine was doing the shutting itself off thing. I think it was about 10 years average. (But, it seems it would have to depend on how much you use it.) Mine just trips the GFCI every so often. Weird . . .
If you are a heavy user like I am and I also pack it tight then 5 yrs is good. Mine lasted 4. Plus I am one to believe that they just don't make products with the same quality they used to.
They used to be made to last longer, but I heard a repairman say that refrigerators are designed for a maximum life of 10 years and w/d for 5-7.
We've had our set since 98 with no troubles. Of course, we've had to replace the entire septic system and other higher price issues. Our refrigerator is the same age with only a couple of repairs we could do ourselves.
We just got a "new" stove from Craig's list because the old one that came with our old house had a burner that just would not turn off. When I cleaned it thoroughly upon moving in, I accidentally scrubbed off all the model number information so we had no hope of finding parts. This one is SOO nice, it even has a broiler (that I'll have to figure out how to use).
God is not only in control of the nations, but also of my appliances and they will last or not in His good timing.
