Just a Quick Poll

Do you have a television in your bedroom? Jared and I do not. I've always felt like a TV in each room is a little much and only encourages members of the family to spend time in different rooms alone verses all together in one main room.

We have our main TV and then our spare room has a TV in it supposedly for company. The kids use the TV upstairs pretty often. We use it more when we have company on Sunday nights for all the kids to watch a movie or for the boys when they want desperately to watch something for the 100th time. It doesn't have cable or any kind of antenna it's main purpose is to watch DVDs.

I have been thinking a lot about whether or not I want one in our bedroom. Neither of us watch TV to sleep at night. My reasoning is kinda silly actually. In the last two pregnancies I was put on partial bed rest at least for a little while and I guess I feel that is coming at some point. There isn't any reason for that worry but alas it's there. Graham came at 34 weeks and if there are any signs of preterm labor with Anneliese I'll be stuck in bed until she's ready.

We have a nice sized bedroom and we have two perfect corners for a wall mount and small TV. The other perk I see is that I'm NOT a fan of football and on Sunday afternoons I could watch something in my room while Jared dozes to hour upon hour of football.

Anyway, do you have one? Do you prefer it or do you wish it could be removed? Just curious!

We have one. It doesn't have cable either, just dvd. I "need" it to fall asleep. Pretty much the only time it is on is while I'm going to sleep. Sometimes Trent will watch a movie in there, and I will watch a DVD while I'm folding laundry. If it broke, we would replace it, so yes, I prefer it. Jason probably doesn't care either way.

We have one but haven't turned it on since we switched to Direct cuz it doesn't have a receiver anymore. I prefer not to have one cuz Jerad will hide out in our room and watch it. But it is nice to have when I'm sick.

We have one, but it just has an antenna, no cable or anything and no dvd player. I used to "need" it to go to sleep, but now I really don't. It is nice to have an extra one in case I don't want to watch some documentary or something Eric is watching on the main tv. It gets most used on Saturday mornings when everyone piles in our bed.

We have one. It has an antenna and DVD/VHS player. Its nice when any of us are sick and need to be separated from the others or when Heath is watching football, things like that. Sometimes we'll get really tired and really want to see the weather or something on late and its nice to have then too.

Kristi and I do have one. I wouldn't have it any other way. 95% of the time we watch tv together on our main tv...but it is nice when one of us isn't feeling well or there is a game on.

We have one. It does have cable. We usually watch it the last half hour as we're getting ready for bed...what that means is that Justin lays in bed watching TV as he waits for me to get ready for bed...because it only takes him 5 minutes. :0) We rarely use it to watch something different. We like it and if it broke we'd replace it...actually we'll probably replace it before it breaks because Justin wants a flat screen now.

We don't have one in the master. We have one in the family room that is the most used and one in the office so I can watch as I scrapbook. I like not having it in the bedroom because we tend to talk to each other rather than watching tv. That's OUR time!!! I should probably say that we are not a big tv family either. When Derek was on ship I wasn't sure why I even had the thing other than for the news!

We have two TV's. Both are hooked to antennae and each has a combo video/DVD player. We have one in our living room and the other is in our bedroom. I hate it in our bedroom - except that I love to get the weather first thing in the morning between waking and doing my morning quiet time. Because our home is small, we could put the second TV in the (only) bathroom or the kids' room or the basement (COLD). :-) It is frequently used as the "alternate". Sometimes it is for the males in the house (and they always eat chips or cookies and leave crumbs on the bed), sometimes it is for the kids while the grownups sit in actual furniture, sometimes it is the "man cave" for when my husband needs some time to himself. I personally don't watch much TV anymore. I homeschool during the day, and recently got a part-time retail job so I am gone most evenings and weekends.

In short, I hate having food crumbs/spills and such on my bed as it is the alternate TV. But, I like it to catch the weather before I get out of bed or when it is muted as a nightlight for the other person to go to bed/get up without waking the other.

I think I'm pretty well decided to go ahead. My only concerns are really unfounded. I don't honestly believe adding a television to our bedroom will rob our family of unity or my marriage of intimacy. I'm sure we're stronger than that :) It seems like the benefits far outweigh the unfounded concerns.
